The 2nd Jerusalem Festival of Light

9-16 June 2010

Following the success of last year’s first Jerusalem Festival of Light, Jerusalem’s Old City will once again form the magnificent backdrop for lighting installations, exhibits and works of art in the Light in Jerusalem 2010 festival, 9-16 June 2010. This celebration of light in an urban setting, the initiative of the Jerusalem Development Authority and the Ariel Company, is expected to attract about a quarter of a million visitors to the Old City over the six day festival.

Special attractions (free admission) include Festival of Light exhibits – artistic light exhibits designed by leading local and international light artists on display in the Old City; street events and performances; tourist attractions and a lighting fair in the Byzantine Cardo.

Other events (admission fee) include the opening event at Sultan’s Pool in cooperation with the Israel Festival - a spectacular performance on 9 June with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and a stunning light show - and a Nocturnal Light Show that will take place every evening at the foot of the Old City Ramparts - a unique performance which combines movement and light. There will also be a variety of tours, guided in English and Hebrew, of the light creations, theatrical tours among the displays, the City Rampart promenade and more. Free shuttle transport will take visitors around the Old City Ramparts and ease accessibility to the various sites.

Special accommodation packages will be available for tourists, including a Light in Jerusalem package week that includes a week’s discounted accommodation and a visit to Jerusalem during the Festival of Light.

An advertising and marketing campaign to promote the Festival of Light and the accommodation packages will run in England and France, funded by the Tourism Ministry and Jerusalem Development Authority.
